I’ve loved the movie version since I was a girl and I just can’t imagine life without this book and film!


2. “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens (1843)

The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly, bitter old man who despises Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him to change his ways. He is then visited by three spirits: the Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present, and Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Through these visits, Scrooge witnesses his own life, the struggles of the poor, and the consequences of his selfishness.

The ultimate Christmas classic for a reason, Charles Dickens’ tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation reminds us of the redemptive power of Christmas. With its carols, feasts, and snowy London streets, it’s the perfect cozy Christmas read!


3. “An Angel in Her Pocket: A Pride and Prejudice Variation” by Brenda Webb (2021)

I absolutely adore this novella! For Jane Austen lovers, this unique variation of Pride and Prejudice is a heartwarming holiday tale.

Set during a bleak Christmas season, Elizabeth Bennet faces hardship after Lydia’s elopement with Mr. Wickham and her father’s subsequent death. With Mr. Collins taking possession of Longbourn, Elizabeth and Jane are forced to live apart. In London, Elizabeth’s hope of finding employment is fading as Christmas approaches. During this challenging time, an angel appears, offering guidance and support to Elizabeth, leading her toward unexpected joy and love.

Taking place during the Christmas season, this novella blends Regency charm, romance, and the spirit of second chances. This novella combines Pride & Prejudice and It’s a Wonderful Life! It definitely brought a tear to my eye!

5. “The Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis (1950-1956)

Though not exclusively Christmas stories, C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a classic fantasy novel that famously introduces Narnia under the White Witch’s rule—“always winter, never Christmas.” The return of Aslan brings hope, joy, and yes—Christmas! This fantastical story is a masterful allegory of the Christian faith and is perfect for a wintry escape, no matter how old you are.


6. “Once Upon a Wardrobe” by Patti Callahan (2021)

Continuing on the Narnia theme, this touching story is about the origins of Narnia and the heart of C.S. Lewis’s imagination. This novel weaves family, love, and wonder. While not a Christmas story per se, its magical, nostalgic tone makes it an enchanting December read!

Set in December 1950, the novel follows Megs Devonshire, a 17-year-old mathematics student at Oxford University. Her younger brother, George, is gravely ill and confined to bed, finding solace in his favorite book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. 10. “The Christmas Box” by Richard Paul Evans (1993)

The story follows a successful young businessman who moves his family into a new house just before Christmas. While settling in, he meets an elderly woman named Mary, who shares with him a mysterious “Christmas Box” containing memories, letters, and objects that reveal profound lessons about life, love, and family. Through Mary’s wisdom and the stories within the Christmas Box, the man learns to prioritize what truly matters, reconnect with his family, and embrace the spirit of giving and gratitude.

Jenny Colgan is another one of my favorite “cozy authors.” She’s especially adept at weaving in descriptions of food and delicious baked treats… making me extra hungry!

Set in snowy Edinburgh, this delightful story follows a woman who revitalizes a failing bookshop at Christmastime. Carmen Hogan, a London shopgirl, faces uncertainty when her department store closes, forcing her to reluctantly move in with her successful lawyer sister, Sofia, in Edinburgh. There, she starts working at Mr. McCredie’s struggling bookshop on picturesque Victoria Street, tasked with saving it before Christmas. Amid managing the shop and navigating her tense relationship with Sofia, Carmen discovers the transformative power of literature and the value of community.

Cozy, bookish, and full of holiday charm—what’s not to love!


14. “Louisa May Alcott’s Christmas Treasury” by Louisa May Alcott, Edited by S. Hines (2002)

If you’re already a fan of Little Women, then this one is right up your alley! A collection of Alcott’s Christmas tales that highlight generosity, family, and festive cheer, this treasury is a wonderful companion to Little Women, especially during the holidays.


15. “Christmas Stories (Everyman’s Library)” Edited by Diana Secker Tesdell (2007)

For me personally, I am a big fan of Everyman’s Pocket Classics short story collections, and I own multiple delightful collections. This particular anthology of classic Christmas tales encompasses all different types of authors, including Chekhov, John Cheever, and Truman Capote. From Dickens to modern writers, this volume is like sitting down to a banquet of holiday storytelling. With each tale unique in it’s own right, you won’t know quite what to expect!


16. “The Christmas Dress” by Courtney Cole (2021)

Meg Julliard, a fashionista from New York City, returns to her hometown of Chicago to manage her late father’s apartment building, Parkview West. The building is in disrepair, and its eclectic tenants require her attention. Among them is Ellie Wade, a longtime resident preparing to move into a nursing home. As Ellie sorts through her belongings, she gifts Meg a vintage green velvet dress, symbolizing both the best and worst night of her life. Ellie encourages Meg to wear the dress to the building’s Christmas party, believing it will bring her luck. The dress fits perfectly, leading to a series of events that inspire Meg to pursue her lifelong dream of restoring Parkview West and preserving it as a safe home for its residents.

A heartwarming contemporary romance centered on an heirloom Christmas dress that brings love and hope to its new owner, this one is perfect for those who love sentimental holiday reads.

This anthology gathers poems, stories, and excerpts from beloved writers like Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, and Thomas Hardy, all centered on Christmas. Perfect for dipping into on cozy December evenings, it makes a lovely Christmas tradition—reading a piece each night until Christmas morning.


18. “Christmas in Vermont” by Anita Hughes (2019)

With glittering lights, charming inns, and the magic of snowy walks, this book feels like stepping into a Hallmark Christmas movie! Christmas in Vermont by Anita Hughes is a heartwarming holiday romance set in the picturesque town of Snowberry, Vermont.

This is one to put on your holiday reading wish list this year! And if you love the movie You’ve Got Mail, I can’t imagine you won’t be excited about this one!

29. “Christmas with the Queen” by Hazel Gaynor (2024)

30. “The Paper Bag Christmas” by Kevin Alan Milne (2008)
