There’s no doubt that Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year. From all the busy shopping to pulling out old family recipes that take hours of prep time; from Christmas parties with friends to busy family events; from work projects to household chores, there are so many fun moments to love and cherish throughout the Christmas season—moments that keep us busy, busy, busy!
However, if we’re honest, many of struggle during the holidays too. We end up feeling a little bit too overwhelmed—or maybe a lot. Buying presents can be time-consuming and financially stressful. On top of that, we often feel the pressure to do it all, feel extra jolly even when we don’t, smile all the time, and lose ourselves in the season of extravagance. Then, the next thing you know, Christmas is over in the blink of an eye.
Afterwards, we’re left wondering where Christmas went, if we were really fully present, and if we even enjoyed it. We regret that we rarely found a moment to pause for some meaningful rest and reflection, if at all.
But this year… life can be different.
This Christmas, you can cherish moments of restoration, heartfelt quiet times with the Lord, and special moments in prayer for family and friends. You can experience peace and joy amidst all the busy moments.
You can start by creating a beautiful Christmas Nook!

What’s a Christmas Nook, you might ask? A Christmas Nook is a space you build for yourself filled with intentionality and care. It’s a space for restorative time and reflection, and it’s a space to remember how important it is to stop and be still during the Christmas season. If your soul is craving stillness, wholeness, peace, and true joy this Christmas, then a Christmas Nook is for you!
How to Create Your Very Own Christmas Nook

1. Choose the Right Spot
Do you have a favorite comfy chair, spot by the fireplace, or window you love to sit at and watch the world go by? Do you have a nice sunroom, favorite writing desk, or even a blanket around the Christmas tree? This can be your Christmas Nook!
It’s important to choose a space where you can return to again and again every morning or evening. In fact, a Christmas Nook is all about “setting up shop” for the season and finding a little corner of your space you can decorate with intentionality and loving care for the month of December. Most importantly, you want to choose a spot that’s convenient (and doesn’t inconvenience anyone else) and can fill your heart with a feeling of peace.
Sitting by a window with a beautiful view, finding a joyful spot under the Christmas tree, or sitting at a lovely writing desk will help eliminate distractions and keep you focused during your time in your Christmas Nook.
2. Decorate Your Christmas Nook

Decorating your Christmas Nook is a wonderful way to celebrate the season. Start by adding comfy Christmas-themed blankets like red and green quilts. You can even add Christmas pillows too!
Next, choose a themed painting or picture with a Christmas quote, such as a Christmas carol lyric, a Bible verse, or a favorite saying. This lovely quote should remind you why you wanted to create your Christmas Nook in the first place.
Third, decorate your Christmas Nook with a Christmas-scented candles like my favorites from DW Home. DW Home makes the best seasonal candles and I can always find them at HomeGoods or T.J. Maxx.
Finally, don’t forget to add a string or two of Christmas lights to make your space extra magical.
3. Commit to Daily Prayer & Meditation

Your Christmas Nook can be your special space for prayer, meditation, journaling, Bible reading, and spending time with God. It’s a space just for you, to find restoration and prayer during the Christmas season. That’s why it’s important to take intentional time for yourself during the season of Advent.
The truth is that we cannot give away what we do not have. At the end of the year, many of us can feel overwhelmed by what has transpired in the previous twelve months. Perhaps you’re feeling disappointed by lost dreams, sickness, disease, poverty, or grief. Oftentimes, the season of Christmas can be in danger of bringing to the surface some of our toughest emotions, like worry, anxiety, grief, doubts, and depression—simply because we feel so much pressure to be happy. But faking Christmas cheer is not what Christmas is all about.
Christmas is a season for honesty, reflection, love, and, mostly, peace. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, your Christmas Nook can be a place where you meet daily with God and find true peace and joy rooted in Christ, not in commercialism or consumerism. Taking time for yourself to meet with God during Advent is one of the most powerful choices you can make to enjoy the Christmas season.
This Christmas, you can rest in your Savior’s love. Christmas is about finding solace in God, who sent His Son Jesus to save us from our sins and restore us to Himself. That peace is available to you this Christmas.

4. Find the Right Christmas Devotional & Books
One of my favorite parts about the Advent season is finding a new devotional I can read every morning. One of my favorite booksellers, Barnes & Noble, usually has a great selection at Christmastime of Christmas books and Christmas devotionals to enjoy during the Advent season.
You can also turn to other resources like The Daily Grace Co. Each year, The Daily Grace Co. produces a high-quality Advent devotional, and I absolutely adore them. They include thoughtful reflections, abundant spaces for journaling, and heartfelt encouraging Bible verses to stay centered during one of the most spiritual times of the year.
Choosing a Christmas devotional to read from every morning and adding it to your daily Bible reading will help you slow down, reflect on the true meaning of the season, and keep Christ at the center of your heart and mind this Christmas.

5. Find a Time That Feels Right for You

Taking time to yourself during the Christmas season can be a challenge. Whether you have a spouse, little ones running around, work to complete, parties to attend, food to bake, or spaces to decorate, the Christmas season is filled with busyness.
Assess when you can reasonably commit to your Christmas Nook. You may have to go to bed earlier so you can get up early or wait until everyone is tucked into bed to find some time to yourself. Find a time that feels right for you, your family, and your schedule so you can commit to your Christmas Nook every morning.
A Sacred Space for the Christmas Season

Now you have your Christmas Nook! This space is ideal for early morning or evening prayers & devotionals during the month of December.
Commit to starting each day in your Christmas Nook and setting your heart right on what matters most. Rather than escaping into commercialism or “faking it till you make it,” you can find true peace and joy this Christmas season. Whether you’re experiencing a time of grief and loss, or simply longing for deeper meaning and peace, this is a special space for you and your heart.
Most importantly, your Christmas Nook is about connecting with God, escaping the busyness of the holiday season, and finding time for healing during one of the most spiritual times of the year.
